As Doctors of Optometry, the optometrists at Orchard Park Optometry are qualified to treat minor eye care emergencies, including infections, inflammation, eye scratches, pink or red eyes, as well as foreign objects in the eye.
Eye emergencies can’t wait! If you are experiencing any kind of eye care emergency, we have doctors available for an appointment seven days per week. Appointments are partially covered by the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP), and we will see you as soon as possible. Of course, if we are unavailable and you need medical attention, please go directly to a hospital emergency room.

Types of Emergencies
Eye emergencies may include:
- Flashes & floaters
- Cuts or scratches
- Foreign objects stuck in the eye
- Chemical splashes
- Trauma (such as a black eye)
Symptoms of an eye emergency include:
- Burning or stinging
- One eye bulging
- Redness
- Bruising or bleeding
- Extreme itchiness
- Severe headache
- Loss of vision
- Eye pain
- Pupils that are not the same size
What to Do in the Event of an Eye Care Emergency
In the event of an eye care emergency, you should be aware that treatment is covered under the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP). Your first course of action should be to come to our clinic and have your condition properly diagnosed by an optometrist.
If we are unavailable, please go directly to a hospital emergency room. Threats to your vision can’t wait.
